of USD #384 Special Board of Education Meeting
A Special
Board of Education meeting for USD #384 Blue Valley was held on February
1, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room. Members
present were Ivan Jones, Marla Webster, Russell Peterson, Carla Schroller,
A.G. McLean, Bruce Kaump, Angie Pfizenmaier. Administration present were Brady Burton,
Superintendent; Tim Winter, High School and Middle School Principal;
Jim McCormick, Olsburg Elementary School
Principal; Melody Pfaff, Board Clerk
The Agenda
was approved.
A
resignation from Jean Mari Norman, Olsburg Elementary
School Custodian, was accepted effective immediately.
Stormy
Brandt was hired as head cook at the high school beginning August 9,
2010.
Brady Burton presented information on the budget outlook for
2010-2011.
The Middle School Leadership Program was eliminated for the
2010-2011 school year.
Olsburg Elementary School custodian position
was reduced by 1.5 hours a day for the 2010-2011 school year.
Classroom budgets will be reduced from $150 to $100 for the 2010-2011 school year.
High School basketball C-team games will be eliminated for
the 2010-2011 school year.
Building use charges was discussed. It was decided to follow the current
building usage policy and not charge for all groups to use school facilities.
Buildings are going to reduce postage costs by having fewer
mailings.
District calendar will not be printed. It will be strictly online and included
with the newsletters.
Elimination of district purchasing medals for awards for clubs
and organizations with the exception of the state assessment awards.
District and building handbooks will be available online. Hard
copies will be available for those without Internet access.
A fee of $150.00 will be charged for online courses offered
at Blue Valley High School except for the Foreign Language courses. Students/parents will be reimbursed $50.00
if the student earns a grade of C or higher in the course.
Blueville football field services contract
will be eliminated for the 2010-2011 school year.
Parents as Teachers program will be eliminated for the 2010-2011
school year.
The ambulance service at high school junior varsity and middle
school football games will be eliminated for the 2010-2011 school year.
A flat $40.00 activity fee will be charged to students
who participate in one of the following or a combination of any of
the following: high school football, high school volleyball,
high school basketball, and high school track. This will begin in the 2010-2011 school
year.
Enrollment and computer fees will be increased from $35.00
to $40.00 for the 2010-2011 school year. Lunch fees will increase .10
for the 2010-2011 school year.
The vacant middle school teaching position will be filled
with a new .5 teacher. The
remaining .5 of the position will be filled with current staff.
Possible bus route reduction was discussed. This item will be addressed at the beginning
of the 2010-2011 school year.
Possible preschool attendance fee was discussed. The Board decided to not charge fees
for the 2010-2011 school year.
It was the consensus of the Board to max out the L.O.B. fund
budget for the 2010-2011 school year.
A 4 mill Capital Outlay Fund Levy Resolution was read and
approved for the 2010-2011 school year.
