In September of 1899 a special school election was held to change from a common school to a graded school without a dissenting vote. Thus the school was placed under the graded school laws of the state of Kansas and gave the board the power to grade the course for admission to state or other universities. The pupils were required to take the county examination at the completion of the eighth grade. The first annual report on file in the Pottawatomie county office of the Register of Deeds is dated July 30, 1897. The average daily attendance for that year was 76. The school building consisted of four rooms with three teachers. The total wages for teachers that year was $875.00. Total expenditures were $981.20. By the late 40's and early 50's, the "country" schools had begun to close and join the Olsburg District #38. A few years later it was necessary to unify the Olsburg district with the Randolph district. The new district is USD 384. The building at Olsburg contains grades K-4. This building was completed in 1959 and contained four classrooms, bathrooms, an office and kitchen. In 1988 an addition of six classrooms were added. |
