Bobbi and Carlyn traveled to Washington DC for the National Businesss Professionals of America Conference May 3-7 to compete in business career competitions.
After competing at the state level in February, Bobbi qualified for nationals in Fundamental Word Processing and Desktop Publishing and Carlyn qualified in Desktop Publishing. With their advisor, Patty Nelson, they flew to Washington DC to attend the 45th annual conference.
Their events were given early in the trip followed by the Opening Session on the lawn of the Washington monument and workshops later in the trip with the Closing Session and awards on the last night. Both have been working hard with the organization to raise money for the trip and prepare for their competitions.
They did not just go to compete, though. The group enjoyed the sights and history of Washington DC by seeing the Arlington Cemetery, several Smithsonian museums, the Pentagon, the Jefferson memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Capitol, the Vietnam War memorial, the World War II memorial where the group got to meet former Kansas Senator, Bob Dole, the Holocaust museum, the White House, the Air Force memorial, and the Marine memorial. The group also loved visiting the famous cupcake bakery, Georgetown Cupcakes, from the hit TLC television show, DC Cupcakes. Washington DC was busy unlike quiet Kansas and had so much to see. At the end of the trip, they had seen and walked all over the city.
The group was ready for home but there was no denying that this trip was not only educational but also one of the most memorable moments of their lives in our nation’s capitol.
