Earth Science set up their "Growing a Copper Deposit" Lab today. In this unit we have been exploring mineral structure and what makes a mineral an ore. For the next two weeks students will monitor this model while we learn about the science in mining.
Modeling cell processes is something that College Biology does best. This past unit we looked at the important of specific amino acid sequence and the secondary and tertiary structure in biochemical molecules like proteins. We also used modeling to explain several biochemical processes like the ATP-ADP cycle.
Biology just wrapped up their Population Dynamics unit where they explored what controls how big a population can get. They used games to collect data and compare to a real world study. They also used computer simulations to see how they needed to change their lab group's model and ultimately their class consensus model.
Modeling how matter behaves has been on Chemistry's collective minds. They have used several experiments to explain the particle nature of matter so they can better understand the conditions under which chemical reactions occur.
The Physics boat race came early this year. Students successfully raced two cardboard and duct tape boats. Thank you to Tammi Howland and the Olsburg City pool for allowing us to use their faculty. he Physics class would also like to thank Mr. Mazouch for transporting them to the pool and his help with filming the race. Physics has now wrapped up their analysis and class work to help them explain why their boats didn't sink using the knowledge of fluid dynamics, buoyancy, and Archimedes principle.
