We used electrolysis of water as an example of a decomposition reaction. Then we tested each of the two gases made to verify our predictions. We'll look at the process in more detail tomorrow to determine if our actual yield was near the predicted yield.

As part of the World Food Prize Global Challenge, the Blue Valley High Sophomore and Juniors in Mrs. Reichert’s English classes researched food insecurity in countries of their choosing and then proposed solutions. They each created an informative poster, gave a presentation and wrote a 2-3 page research paper. The combined classes also brought in food that has been delivered to the Community Food Basket Serving NW Riley to combat local food insecurity. The attached picture is of the collected food items along with some of the Sophomore Hunger Fighters.

"Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" On Friday, the Math classes took time to compliment each other and staff at BVMS and BVHS. The students placed the compliments in a bucket. Students had to write one compliment to a student in the class and one to a staff member of their choice. It was a great way to end the week!!

Today in biology it was time to check on our hay infusions to see what was living in them. To date we have found many paramecia, several rotifers, a Vorticella, and copious amounts of diatoms. Tomorrow we will perturb them to see how the culture changes when stress is applied to an ecosystem.

UPDATE ON KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP MAY 4TH, 2021 Hello Blue Valley Families, I wanted to update you on the Kindergarten Round-up being held on May 4th from 5:30 - 6:30 at McCormick Elementary School. As the staff and I initially planned this event, a lot of thought went into how we could make it the safest way to have the “Round-up.'' We made the plans and sent the information out to the community. Since then, we have had some discussion with a variety of stakeholders about the event and we have decided to make some slight changes to the Kindergarten Round-up 2021. The date of the event will be May 4th from 5:30-6:30 @ McCormick Elementary. We will have 2 portions to the event to accommodate as many people as possible: From 5:30-6:00, McCormick Elementary School will be open for an Open House to meet Mrs. Dreith. During the Open House, parents and incoming Kindergarteners are welcome to come in the building, take a tour of the classroom and building. Parents are encouraged to not bring siblings as there will be no child care available and the playground will be closed. From 6:00-6:30, Mrs. Dreith will move outside for the drive through portion of the event so parents who want to drive up can meet her and pick up their Kindergarten enrollment packets. We hope to see all incoming Kindergarten students and family on the 4th.
