Eighth grade science students have been studying the different types of chemical bonds and learning how these bonds form. They completed an Ions in Solution lab this week to identify how copper ions in solution are attracted to negative iron atoms on a nail. Positive and negative charges attract!

The Blue Valley Middle School Scholars Bowl team did a great job at the first meet of the year at Clifton-Clyde Thursday, Feb. 18. Six teams (Blue Valley, Hanover, Linn, Clifton-Clyde, Valley Heights, and Marysville) competed in both the Varsity and Junior Varsity competitions. The Varsity team earned medals with their 3rd place finish and the Junior Varsity team went undefeated with a 5-0 record.

Algebra II students gave solving Radical Equations a "whirl'. The students answered a question over radical equations and then spun the wheel to receive points ranging from 10 to 100. Our game will continue tomorrow....stay tuned for the winner.

We been using spectroscopy to help with identification both in Chemistry and Applied Stats this past week. Chemistry is using this technique with their flame testing lab to identify emission spectra of elements. Applied Statistics is using a single wavelength of light to identify the concentration of protein in a sample.
